This unit will focus on introducing students to the laboratory in four specific areas. These areas are:
Safety in the Laboratory
The fields of science
The Scientific Method
Scientific skills and laboratory equipment
We will familiarise ourselves with equipment in the laboratory and how to use it safely. This will include the safe use of a Bunsen burner. Students will gain an understanding of different areas of study in Science and research some famous scientists to develop an understanding of how Science affects society. Finally, this unit will outline the importance of following a set of rules when experimenting so that accurate and reliable conclusions can be drawn from results.

- Start researching a famous scientist (When and where they lived, What was their contribution, positive/negative contributions to society)
- Finish glossary terms in preparation for the upcoming topic test on How do you know something is true?
